Thomas can be described as a cheeky, fussy little engine. He is very friendly, though, and is proud of his own coaches, Annie & Clarabel, and his own branch line.

Percy is the youngest member of the branch line crew. He is quite happy shunting trucks in the yard or pulling freight, but his favourite job of all time is pulling the post train.

James is a mixed-traffic engine who loves to show off his smart, red paintwork. The engines do sometimes get annoyed by him, but they love him just the same!

Gordon is the senior member of the main line crew. He can be boastful sometimes, and always likes to be right. He has a good heart, though, and likes to help his friends.

Henry is a freight engine who has a prone to illness, and he suffers from a cold. However, he has special Welsh coal to help him run, which makes him feel much better.

Toby is the oldest on the branch line. He and his faithful coach, Henrietta, enjoy taking workmen to the quarry in the morning, or helping Thomas with the passenger trains. He is very wise, and always knows what to do in tricky situations.

Gary can be a rather shy engine sometimes, but he's very friendly and stands up for his friends. He works with his brother, Steve. Steve was originally the worst enemy of Gary, after the brothers fell out after an accident. However, they are now best friends again like brothers should be, and enjoy working together. Steve loves telling jokes.

Gyles is the newest engine on Sodor. He is a happy, hard-working steam locomotive, who helps Thomas with passenger trains on the branch lines.

Edward is a very helpful engine with a big heart. He is clever and wise, always glad to help and give advice to the younger engines in a nice way.

More formally known as Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller is the proud owner of the Sodor Railway. He keeps himself busy every day by inspecting the island making sure his trains are running well, paperwork and deciding what the next course will be.

Tiger Moth is a bi-plane who would love to believe planes rule over trains. His past-times include flying dangerously and (rather pathetically) bullying the engines, especially Thomas. Fortunately, the trains can always put him in his place.

Algar is a friendly combine harvester who only wants for everything and everyone to be happy. Also, he claims he would rather use his big blades for tidying up rubbish rather than harvesting corn.

Diesel 10 is an evil diesel locomotive who wants revenge on all steamers following an incident several years ago. Fortunately, brave Thomas put a stop to his dastardly plans and now Diesel 10 has been forced to learn to work alongside steamers, in hope that he will see another side of them. However, noone ever said he doesn't have another evil scheme in mind...
